Philadelphia Portrait Project: Star C. Foster
Name: Star C. Foster
Neighborhood: Center City
Photographed in: Rittenhouse Square, on the Goose Girl Fountain
Why she chose it: Star chose Rittenhouse Square because it’s been one of her favorite spots in the city, and she’s been visiting ever since she was a kid growing up in Northeast Philadelphia. Star calls the park a gathering place for all sorts of city residents, and notes that her favorite part is that it’s a gathering place for artists. In the park, she’s seen one-man bands, break-dancers, drum circles, a midnight techno-dance party - and even a faux animatronic chess playing mime. Specifically, she cose the Goose Girl because she’s a good landmark for where to meet … if only she knew exactly what it was that the young girl is doing to that goose.
Note from Dominic: Shortly after this was taken, Star passed away suddenly. Our thoughts are with her family and we wish them the best.
If you live in Philadelphia and want to photographed for the project, just let me know. You get to pick the place, and you get a 4 by 6 out of the deal.
